· Number of registered voters: 20,526,978 (2018 election)
· Opening and closing time of polling stations
- 6 am and 6 pm respectively
· Voter turnout: 45.73% (2018 presidential election)
- Presidential: Plurality vote. There are no term limits.
- Parliamentary: In the National Assembly (Asamblea Nacional), 110 members are elected by majority vote, 52 members are elected by proportional representation and 3 members are reserved for indigenous peoples.
· Voting process
1. Verify his/her ID card and the biographic information
2. The authentication device then reads the voter’s fingerprint
3. Voting (Proceed to the voting machine -> Select the option -> Cast his vote)
4. Print a voting voucher and insert this into the ballot box.
5. The elector signs the poll book and puts his/her fingerprint on it.
· Counting process
1. The final vote count is confirmed with the physical vouchers that voters put in the receipt box
2. Transmit electronically through a network isolated from the internet and any computer to assure that no interference can occur.
3. Electronically, votes are stored on the machines in a random order to avoid sequence counting of voters.
