[Albania] Campaign: "Involving Young People in the Electoral Process"
Last updated 2024-06-26

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Albania, with the support of the OSCE, has launched an educational, informative, and sensitization campaign titled "Electoral Education and Training Program: Involving the Youth in the Electoral Process." This campaign continues during non-election years and is conducted in various universities throughout the country.

The CEC, with OSCE support, is conducting education sessions with students from Bachelor's and Master's programs. These sessions begin with participant introductions and discuss the challenges young people face in accessing election information. Students focus on the election process's challenges and suggest solutions. They show interest in voting procedures and identifying electronic issues related to election progress.

Discussions also cover election participation, the provisions of the Electoral Code regarding vote buying, how to correctly fill out a ballot paper, and circumstances under which a ballot may be deemed invalid. Representatives emphasize the importance of voting and encourage students to exercise their voting rights.

Students inquire about the CEC's stance and decision-making process regarding suggestions for changes to the Electoral Code, highlighting their desire to be involved in its amendment. This youth contribution is crucial for the effective administration of elections.

The CEC training unit informs student groups about election administration and its levels, specifically CEAZ, VCC, and BCC, including their organization and the large number of people involved. Students also learn about other actors in the election process, such as election administration trainers, campaign monitors, electronic identification device operators (PEI), and electronic voting operators (PEVN). Through the training, they are introduced to the CEC training program and various materials published by the CEC.

Students with a Bachelor's degree have the opportunity to apply on CEC platforms and applications to actively participate in organizing the election process.
