Under the auspices of the "Supporting Electoral Integrity in Bosnia and Herzegovina (SEI)" project, USAID BiH, in collaboration with the Central Election Commission of BiH and the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections "Pod Lupom," organized the conference "New Electoral Technologies: Best Practices for BiH" on May 29, 2024, in Sarajevo.
The conference aimed to introduce participants to upcoming tests of new voting technologies in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It brought together election experts, representatives of election management bodies, civil society organizations, and media outlets from BiH. Additionally, attendees from countries such as Georgia, Albania, and Kyrgyzstan, where similar technologies have been tested or implemented, participated in the event.
Key discussions included: - The first panel, “Electoral Technologies Introduced in the Region: Lessons for BiH”, offered insights and recommendations for integrating new voting technologies;
- The second panel, “Overview of Planned
Technologies - Pilots 2024”, outlined the technological features and pilot
projects intended to support the Central Election Commission of BiH;
- The third panel, “Observation of New Technologies in BiH”, focused on perspectives from domestic and international observers regarding the integration of these technologies into BiH’s electoral system.
The conference facilitated a robust exchange of experiences, ideas, and lessons learned among stakeholders involved in modernizing Bosnia and Herzegovina's electoral system. This collaborative effort lays the groundwork for future advancements toward ensuring transparent and efficient elections in the country.
