A-WEB to Participate in the 18th Inter-American Meeting of Electoral Authorities

Upon invitation from the Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO) of the Organization of American States (OAS), the Secretariat of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) will participate in the 18th Inter-American Meeting of Electoral Authorities (RAE), to be held on 8–9 September 2025 in Santiago, Chile.

The OAS has been a long-standing partner of A-WEB, and its participation in the RAE reflects this strong cooperation. The A-WEB Secretariat, represented by Director General Yong-Kwon Kim, is set to attend in observer status, joining electoral authorities, practitioners, and experts from across the Americas to share experiences and build stronger democratic processes.

This year’s RAE will focus on some of the most pressing challenges facing elections today, including:

 ​Restoring trust in elections in the face of polarization and erosion of democratic norms;

• ​Overcoming voter abstention and reconnecting citizens with democratic institutions;
• E​xploring the role of artificial intelligence in elections, balancing risks and opportunities for digital democracy;
• Protectin​g electoral authorities from delegitimization campaigns and political attacks; and
• Safeguardi​ng elections in insecure contexts while ensuring the rights of voters and candidates.

By engaging in these discussions, A-WEB seeks to contribute a global perspective on electoral management and reaffirm its commitment to working with partners like the OAS in strengthening electoral integrity worldwide.
