JCE Receives International Award from ICPS for Continuous Improvement Implementation

JCE was recognized for International Engagement and Accessibility 


The Central Electoral Board (JCE) was acknowledged for its contributions to the electoral system of the Dominican Republic and the region. These accolades were granted during the International Electoral Awards Ceremony organized by the International Centre for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS), headquartered in the United Kingdom, held under the auspices of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) of Portugal. 


The JCE of the Dominican Republic received the award for "Continuous Electoral Improvement" and obtained two plaques for its nominations in the categories of "International Engagement" and "Accessibility for All."​


The awards were received by the President of the JCE, Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, who was accompanied by the members Rafael Armando Vallejo Santelises and Patricia Lorenzo Paniagua.

During the award ceremony, the President of the JCE highlighted the importance of these awards, which contribute to further the trust and credibility in the electoral processes 2024.

The Dominican Republic will organize local elections on 18 February 2024 and general elections on 19 May 2024.

Considerations taken into account for the awards

Among the considerations that the ICPS took into account for the award for "Continuous Electoral Improvement" is the JCE's achievement of ISO 9001 certifications for Quality Management System; ISO 54001 Electoral Management Quality System, as well as ISO 27001 Information Security Management System; the Gender Equality Seal certificate, Gold level; the Gold level is included in the certificate RD; the transformation of EFEC into the Higher Specialized Institute in Political Electoral Training and the State (IESPEC).


Also considered were the implementation of accessible voting, prison voting, the Electoral Calendar of Activities for 2024, the promotion of registration abroad, as well as the co-chairmanship of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Organizations (UNIORE) for two years, during which the JCE made contributions to the Latin America and Caribbean region through horizontal cooperation.


The ICPS hosted the nineteenth edition of the symposium and electoral affairs awards ceremony from November 13 to 16. This event aims to acknowledge outstanding individual or institutional contributions in the electoral field.


Out of the ten categories that the ICPS considered for all participating countries, the JCE was nominated in three and was awarded one of the awards.
