Invitation to the online event launching the South African Journal’s special issue, “Safeguarding EMBs in the Age of Global Democratic Recession”

 

The A-WEB Secretariat is pleased to inform you that the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), the Chair organization of A-WEB and the South African Journal of International Affairs (SAJIA), invite you to join virtually for launching the Special issue of the Journal.

The event promises an engaging exploration of these challenges, featuring esteemed panelists and experts in the field:

- Dr. Victor Shale, Electoral Commission of South Africa

- Prof. Mohamed Salih, Erasmus University Rotterdam

- Ms. Sonali Campion, University of East Anglia

- Ms. Nighat Dad, Digital Rights Foundation - Pakistan

- Mr. Robert Gerenge, UNDP – Ethiopia

 The program unfolds as follows:

- 08:30-09:00: Registration

- 09:00-09:10: Welcome and opening remarks by Mr. Sy Mamabolo, CEO of the Electoral Commission of South Africa

- 09:10-10:05: Panel discussion on the Special Issue, reflecting on democratic recession trends, impact, theory, and practice. The discussion will also delve into policy propositions for inclusivity and electoral assistance.

- 10:05-10:25: Questions and Answers

- 10:25-10:30: Presentation of the Journal Copy

- 10:30: Vote of thanks by Mr. Mosotho Moepya, Chairperson of the Association of World Election Bodies and Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of South Africa
