A-WEB Mission Observed 2023 Guatemalan General Elections

In response to an invitation by the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) of Guatemala, A-WEB decided to deploy its Mission for the general elections scheduled for 25 June 2023 in the country. The elections were held to elect the president, vice-president, 160 members of the Congress, 20 members of the Central American Parliament, mayors and councilors of 340 municipalities.

 

The Election Observation Mission (EOM), led by Dr. Carmen Milagros Velarde-Koechline, Head of the National Civil Registry of Peru, consisted of election officials from six countries –​ Bolivia, Colombia, Haiti, Mexico, Paraguay, and Peru.

 

The A-WEB EOM was deployed in Guatemala City, and the Sacatepequez Department which is one of the 22 departments of Guatemala and northwest to Guatemala City to observe the electoral process from the opening of polls to vote-counting and sending preliminary results.

 

Based on the observation and analysis, the A-WEB EOM provided its observation report, which includes comments on the electoral process of Guatemala and recommendations to improve future electoral processes. The EOM hopes that the provided recommendations will play a crucial role in enhancing and refining the Guatemalan electoral process.

  

 

At the request of TSE, A-WEB has decided to send a Mission for the upcoming presidential runoff election to be held on 20 August 20203.
