〔Member EMB in Hungary〕 10th Anniversary of the National Election Office
Last updated 2023-05-09

- contributed by the National Election Office of Hungary-

On Thursday, 25 May 2023, a ceremony will be held in the Parliament in Budapest to celebrate the 10th anniversary of establishing the National Election Office of Hungary. The event will include speeches by several public dignitaries and ministers and a welcome address by István Jakab, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, to the electoral administration and the Election Office staff. Hundreds of participants and all former and current staff of our Office are expected to attend the event.

Until ten years ago, the predecessor of the National Election Office operated without an independent institution, initially within the Ministry of the Interior and later within the Ministry of Administration and Justice. Then, with the entry into force of Act XXXVI of 2013 on Electoral Procedure, the National Election Office was established. Shortly after its creation, the NEO Hungary organized the first parliamentary elections in 2014 under the new electoral law adopted in 2013.

At this significant milestone, we take stock of the period behind us and look forward with renewed vigor to future challenges. At the same time, we recall that the NEO Hungary has already conducted 11 national elections, which required the production of some 126.5 million ballot papers. Furthermore, the Office successfully prepared and conducted parliamentary elections and national referenda in a joint procedure last year.

Today, we are working to launch more and more electronic services in the spirit of e-administration.

To mark this milestone, we plan to upload more interesting data, opinions and reports from our partners on our website, valasztas.hu.
