International observation program of the Constitutional Referendum of Uzbekistan
Last updated 2023-05-09

A delegation from the A-WEB Secretariat, led by the Secretary General took part in the international observation program of the Constitutional Referendum of Uzbekistan upon the invitation from the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Uzbekistan along with 400 observers and 200 media associates from all over the world.

A-WEB delegates visited three polling stations the day before the Referendum to check the preparation and two on the day to observe the voting procedure. They observed that all officials and political party observers understood the standard operating procedure well and contributed to maintaining polling stations in order. And the voters seemed to understand the process.

According to CEC, the preliminary results showed 84.54% turnout and 90.21% among those who voted supported the amendments of the Constitution.

The Secretary General remarked that it was quite impressive to learn about the electoral system of Uzbekistan in two aspects: 1) residence voting for voters with difficulties in accessing regular polling stations and 2) making use of voluntary polling station officers from teachers, professors and others from semi-/public offices.
