2022 Election Management Capacity Building Program: Enhancing Transparency in Political Finance
Last updated 2022-05-26

With widespread demand for transparency and accountability in political finance, election management bodies are striving to make political finance information publicly available and accessible. In response to this trend, Enhancing Transparency in Political Finance, the second course of the 2022 Election Management Capacity Building Program, was held via virtual platforms from 20 to 29 April 2022.

Twelve election officials from the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Maldives attended the course, shared their difficulties in enforcing political finance regulations, and discussed ways to build more effective political finance reporting and disclosure systems.

At the Closing Ceremony on 29 April, Ms. Shahula Ismail, Director of the Election Management & Administration Division of the Elections Commission of Maldives, said, “I was able to expand my knowledge of the political finance systems in different countries, identify challenges in enforcing political finance regulations, and discuss solutions to address those challenges.”
Phase 2 of the course is scheduled to be held this September and will provide participants with opportunities to discuss effective ways to audit political finance reports, investigate violations and review international norms in imposing sanctions.
