Succeeding Mr. Sushil Chandra, Shri Rajiv Kumar took charge as the 25th Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India (ECI) as of 15 May 2022. Prior to this position, Mr. Kumar served as the 3rd Election Commissioner of ECI and engaged with various Ministries at the central and state levels in various areas.
Born on 19 February 1960 and acquiring degrees of B.Sc., LL. B., PGDM., and M.A. in Public Policy and Sustainability, Mr. Kumar is instrumental in taking responsibility of following the time-tested and democratic methods for electoral system in India. He stressed the importance of free and fair elections in order to ensure the purity of the electoral rolls, prevent malpractices and enhance the quality of elections.
