The A-WEB Secretariat, as part of the International Development Program of the Government of the Republic of Korea, provides Election Management Capacity Building Program (CBP) for election officials to help them further develop their professional capabilities and explore ways to address the challenges faced by their election management bodies.

Elections and Media, the first course of the 2022 CBP, was held online from 23 March to 1 April. Eight election officials from the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Republic of Uzbekistan and six representatives from the League of Arab States participated in the course and exchanged their experiences and knowledge in the field of elections and media.

Phase 1 of the course offered participants opportunities to examine existing responses to disinformation threats and evaluate the effectiveness of such responses, sharing best practices to reduce the spread of disinformation and reflecting on the roles of election management bodies in addressing disinformation and misinformation during elections.

Ms. Bouladi, Senior Consultant in Public Outreach, Media, and Elections of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, who presented media guidelines for election coverage, appreciated each team’s efforts and active engagement in the course despite time differences and busy schedules.

Mr. Khalaf, Political Officer of the League of Arab States, said he found the course exciting and useful because it brought together election officials from different parts of the world and gave them a chance to share their insights into election management.
