A-WEB has held its annual Executive Board Meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in San Salvador, El Salvador on February 28th, 2017. This marks the 5th time the Executive Board members have gathered to discuss the future and direction of A-WEB. Of the Executive Board members, Commissioner Rosario Graciano de los Santos, representative of Chairperson Julio Cesar Castanos Guzman of the Junta Central Electoral of the Dominican Republic; Director Daniel Duta, representative of the Vice Chairperson of the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania; Secretary General Yong-Hi Kim of A-WEB; Director Paola Costabella, representative of the Direccion National Electoral of Argentina; Director Ciro Leal, representative of the Superior Electoral Court of Brazil; Commissioner Tassere Savadogo, representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission of Burkina Faso; Commissioner Bakhtiiar Kadyrov, representative of the Central Election Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic; Vice President Terry Tselane of the Electoral Commission of South Africa were present at the meeting. The other members of the Executive Board were not able to attend due to unavoidable prior engagements.
Members of the Oversight and Audit Committee were also present to give the annual report of A-WEB for the fiscal year 2016. The members include President Fonkam Samuel Azu’u of Elections Cameroon, and Director Maria Gabriela Cordero Correa of the National Election Council of the Republic of Ecuador. In addition to the Executive Board members and the members of the Oversight and Audit Committee, there were observers from 3 member organizations, President Bakary Fofana and Commissioner Rama Bah of the National Independent Electoral Commission of Guinea, Commissioner Joao Almeida of the National Elections Commission of Portugal, and President Mohamed Chafik Sarsar of the Independent High Authority for Elections for Tunisia. Senior Advisor Paul DeGregorio was also present for the meeting. The Board members discussed a variety of agenda items including the annual report of 2016, the work plan of 2017, reappointment of the Secretary General, hosting the 3rd General Assembly, and hosting the 6th Executive Board meeting.

All items on the agenda have been approved by the Executive Board members and will now be prepared to be presented at the 3rd General Assembly scheduled to be held in the Republic of Romania by the Permanent Electoral Authority. The 6th Executive Board meeting is expected to be held in Guinea in 2018 while the 4th General Assembly is expected to be held in India in 2019.
A day before the Executive Board meeting the TSE of El Salvador hosted an International Seminar titled “Implementing Information and Communication Technologies for Transparent and Effective Election Management.” Speakers at the seminar included some Executive Board members and the Secretary General of A-WEB.
