The Launch of the Friends of A-WEB Network (F.A.N) Program |

On September 18th 2015, A-WEB hosted the first meeting of the Friends of A-WEB Network (F.A.N) at the Korea Civic Education Institute.
F.A.N will develop into a collection of
partners of A-WEB located in South Korea who are able to occasionally meet the
Secretariat and share information and ideas on promotion of democracy growth.
It will be made up of embassy representatives of countries from where A-WEB's
members originate from (as well as countries not members but express interest
in the activities of A-WEB) and partner international organizations that have
offices located in Seoul.
The objective behind the Friends of AWEB
network is to primarily create awareness about A-WEB and its activities to
government partners and other international organizations as well as promote
further cooperation in the future.
The first meeting attracted 22 attendees (Angola, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cote d'Ivoire, Dominican
Republic, Fiji, Ghana, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Kuwait, Kyrgyz Republic,
Malaysia, Philippine, Romania, South Africa, Tunisia, United States of America,
Zambia) all working level representatives from foreign
embassies. The Director General Mr. Aum Heung Suk gave the opening remarks where
he thanked the participants for honoring the invite to attend the meeting. He
went on to confirm the importance that A-WEB had placed on networking and
partnership and he stated that F.A.N would create that opportunity. He asked
the participants to get involved and express their interests in the activities
of A-WEB through information sharing and expertise in the advancement of and
promotion of democracy around the world.
Director Lee Ju-Hwan gave a presentation on A-WEB, its activities and achievements since its inception. In his presentation he also highlighted on A-WEB’s future plans and activities. He was followed in by Mr. Gathuka who made a presentation about F.A.N, its objectives and activities.
