Presentation of Passports to Youth as a Symbol of Civic Maturity and Responsibility
Public
outreach and awareness-raising are among the priority areas of work of the
Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus (hereinafter referred to
as the CEC). Particular emphasis is placed on young people, with the aim of
fostering a high electoral culture and a conscious attitude towards their civic
rights.
On
the eve of Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus, celebrated on 15 March,
the CEC acted as one of the platforms for the nationwide patriotic campaign “We
Are Citizens of Belarus!”. This initiative involves the ceremonial presentation
of first passports to 14-year-old citizens who have demonstrated outstanding
achievements in academic, sports, and public activities.
Youth
participation in the “We Are Citizens of Belarus!” campaign serves as an
important tool of socialisation, transforming the process of obtaining an
identity document into a meaningful act of civic self-determination. For
electoral authorities, this event represents another opportunity to meet future
voters, to explain their constitutional rights, the importance of elections,
and the role of every citizen in the development of society and the state.
Strengthening
Interagency Cooperation
On
28 March 2026, in Minsk, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Central
Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus (CEC) and the Central Commission
for Elections and Referendums of the Kyrgyz Republic, aimed at the exchange of
experience, the development of joint educational programmes, and the
introduction of modern digital solutions into electoral practice.
The
parties confirmed their intention to contribute to the strengthening of
institutional trust and to ensuring the high quality of electoral procedures in
accordance with national legislation and international standards.
The signing of the agreement marks a significant milestone in the development of the CEC’s international cooperation and contributes to the strengthening of democratic institutions and electoral sovereignty. |
