[The Republic of Korea] NEC Launches "Cat’s Valid and Invalid Ballot Review!" Web Game Ahead of the 9th Local Elections
Last updated 2026-05-26

The National Election Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Korea announced that on May 1, ahead of the upcoming 9th Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections, it launched an interactive web game on its official website (www.nec.go.kr) to help voters distinguish between valid and invalid ballots.

The newly released game, titled "Cat’s Valid and Invalid Ballot Review!", was co-developed in collaboration with the School of Game Contents at Chungkang College of Cultural Industries. Designed to offer a fun and engaging way for voters to learn correct ballot-marking methods, the game features a friendly cat character that determines the validity of ballots marked in various ways.

The game is highly accessible, supporting both PC and mobile platforms. To enhance user engagement, it features four difficulty levels across three different ballot types, including those for local constituency council elections.

Dean of the School of Game Contents at Chungkang College of Cultural Industries, stated, "We aimed to achieve a dual purpose: providing the intrinsic fun of a gaming experience while effectively educating voters on proper marking methods to ensure they correctly exercise their right to vote." He added that he hopes the game will contribute to boosting voter turnout in the upcoming local elections.

To encourage wide public participation, the NEC is hosting an online promotion from May 19 via its official social media channels, offering various prizes for voters who post their gameplay videos.

The NEC emphasized its commitment to voter education, stating, "Moving forward, we will continue our efforts to provide a diverse range of interactive and engaging contents that voters can participate in and enjoy together.“
