· Counting process 

 - House of Representatives

  1. Polling officials open and empty the House of Representatives ballot boxes. 

  2. The first preference results for each candidate are phoned through to the Divisional Returning Officer (DRO)

  3. Polling officials conduct an indicative two-candidate preferred (TCP) count to two selected candidates. This result is then phoned through to the DRO.

  4. The Australian Electoral Commission gives a TCP count result.

 - Senate Count

  1. Polling officials open and empty the Senate ballot boxes. 

  2. A first preference figure is phoned through to the DRO and then transmitted to the Tally Room on the AEC website.
